Regular hygiene care is an important part of preventing dental problems, particularly gum disease.

Plaque is constantly forming around the teeth and gums. If it isn’t removed effectively, it can harden into tartar, which can’t be brushed away at home. Over time, this build-up can irritate the gums and contribute to problems such as bleeding, inflammation, bad breath and gum disease.

During your hygiene appointment, we’ll carefully remove plaque and tartar from the areas your toothbrush can’t reach and help you understand where your own cleaning routine could be working a little harder.

What is AirFlow hygiene?
AirFlow is a gentle way of removing plaque and surface staining using a controlled stream of air, warm water and fine powder.

It can be particularly useful for lifting staining caused by things like tea, coffee, red wine and smoking, while reaching areas that can be more difficult to clean using traditional methods.
​
The result is that lovely smooth, freshly-cleaned feeling — without your hygiene appointment needing to feel overly aggressive. Holywood Dental Care has offered air polishing as part of its hygiene care for some time, particularly because of its ability to clean effectively while providing a comfortable experience for patients, including those with sensitive teeth and gums.
